Frequently Asked Questions

What is different about perinatal mental health care?

Our therapists are independently licensed graduate level therapists with advanced training in perinatal mental health. That means that not only have lots of experience providing therapy, but also have advanced training in working with perinatal women and their families. (And, YES! You can bring all experiences and aspects of your self to therapy. We say that the perinatal period puts everything under a microscope. The good and beautiful is even more so, and what was a little tough before can be all consuming now).

What does perinatal mean? Am I considered perinatal?

Although medical definitions may differ, we work with people who are desiring pregnancy, have experienced a pregnancy loss or infant death, are currently pregnant, or are up to four years postpartum. If you are more than four years postpartum and looking to heal from a perinatal experience (birth trauma, perinatal loss), please don’t hesitate to reach out.

What about men and partners?

We gladly work with men and partners, too!

What modalities are used?

Each of our therapists brings different tools and modalities to their work. Please learn more about them here. After learning more about your need in your phone consult, our practice manager will recommend who on our team may be the best fit for you.

I’ve never done this before! What can I expect? How long are sessions? How often will be meet?

Congratulations on taking this step towards healing. Therapy can be a tremendous gift to you and your family! During the first session, you and your therapist will explore your history, determine what is heaviest right now (symptoms), and what you would like to work on/how you’d like to feel better. Some people benefit from only a handful of therapy sessions, while others find that they need a long term relationship with a therapist. Your therapist can make a recommendation about duration of treatment.

Where are you located?

We do not have an office! Your session will be conducted via our HIPAA-compliant Telehealth platform. Sessions are 53 minutes, and are typically weekly or bi weekly. You may attend your session from anywhere in the state in which you reside. Please note that your therapist cannot seeing when you are traveling outside of the state in which your therapist is licensed. We do request that you attend your session from a place with privacy and a good Internet connection. Babies are welcome in session. We ask that children two and up be out of ear shot, preferably in the care of another adult (Little ears hear everything!).

How do I get started?

Before your first appointment, you will schedule a free, 15-minute consultation call with our care coordinator. You can do this by filling out our contact form. The purpose of this call is to learn more about your needs, and to share information our practice policies, including fees and scheduling. If you’re a good fit for our practice, you’ll receive a link via email, to our client portal, where you’ll be able to fill out all of our required intake paperwork. We ask that this paperwork be completed at least 24-hours in advance of your first session with your therapist.

How much do sessions cost?
